Portland, Oregon is a great town and at just an hour and half away from Lake Mayfield, it is a great place to spend a day during your stay at Mayfield Manor or Triplex. Portland is a city of neighborhoods, each of which are very walkable. On the West Side of the city check out Powell’s Books, the largest independent new and used bookstore in the world (and probably worth a day trip in itself!) Head up to NW 23rd for boutique shopping, and then head up the mountain to Washington Park to check out the International Rose Test Gardens or the Oregon Zoo. Then had back over the river to the East Side and go window shopping on Hawthorne Avenue. Head up to Mount Tabor, an extinct volcano, at the end of the street and check out the amazing views of the city. Before you leave make sure you have a yummy local microbrew in one of Portland’s many, many pubs.
